I can't keep it inside how excited I am that I discovered Canva.com. I first heard about it at my mastermind meeting, when my friend mentioned I should check out this site where I could create free graphics and presentations. Then she showed me a presentation her brother had created using Canva and before I knew it I was home messing around with the program. What I discovered is this program was not just a great tool for graphic design, it was a marketing treasure chest!
What Can you Use Canva For?
The graphic you see above, I created using Canva. They have tons of free layouts that enable you to create beautiful graphics like the pros do without paying a cent. Plus, they make the time spent on finding a graphic online easier.
Did I mention they have over 1,000 stock photos you can choose from. Whether you need a picture of a girl, baby, trees, flowers etc. you can find it using their easy search tab. Some of the photos are free, however, you can buy the majority of the photos at $1 a piece, which is such a steal, considering stock photo companies require you to spend sometimes $12-$24 just on one photo. When you're a small business like me and the other companies I work with, spending lots of money on stock photos just isn't worth it.
Social Media Graphics
Facebook Ad Graphic
Using Canva, I discovered the missing link to creating Facebook Ads that not only complied with the annoying rules of Facebook Ads, but they were the right size for the desktop and mobile ads! Many of my clients have had difficulty creating ads or boosting posts on Facebook because of their graphics having too much writing on it, or they felt the graphics they did have didn't represent their business in a professional way. When you use canva, you can create a Facebook Ad with the right pixels already implemented into the graphic. No more messing around with the Facebook Ad photo editor only to get a sub-par photo of you with your forehead cut off.
Facebook Cover Photo
In a recent webinar, a Facebook expert explained that the cover photo of your Facebook Business Page is a powerful tool that can help you drive leads to your business and can assist you in growing your email list. I took her advice and began creating a facebook cover photo that was personal, would prompt people to sign up for my newsletter and also told potential clients exactly what The Food Marketer does. Plus, when you click on my website on the photo, you will be directed to my website. Now that's a whole lot of marketing value using just a photo!
Do you ever get frustrated with creating your Instagram photos? Do you struggle with not having your full image fit correctly when you post, the picture is blurry or the color just isn't coming out, even after you edit it? When you use canva, you can easily create Instagram photos that are ready to go, no extra editing or fiddling needed. I spend a lot of time on Instagram for my clients and I want to make sure their posts are accompanied by an eye-catching image. I can't tell you how glad I am to finally have a solution to create Instagram photos that are engaging and representative of not only my brand but also my clients brands.
Youtube Channel Art
Youtube Channel Art is a great way to instantly tell your viewers who you are, what you do and what they can expect from your Youtube channel all with a graphic. Luckily, Canva enables you to make beautiful Youtube Channel Art that won't look pixelated, stretched or unprofessional. The graphic above I created using a free template. All I had to do is add the text I wanted, pick colors, font size and an image that captured the essence of my company.
Create Menus For Your Restaurant
Starting a new restaurant is costly and time-consuming. You want to be able to do as much work in-house without outsourcing to cut down on your startup cost, this includes graphic design work. You can create customized menus with Canva found under the Marketing Materials template section. Other types of graphics you can create could include a real estate flyer, poster, business card, wedding invitation, resume, kindle cover, infographic, album cover or gift certificate.
Landing new clients can be a much easier process when you have a visual presentation to show them of the work you do and the impact you've made on your current clients businesses or lives. Canva makes putting together presentations fun, easy and professional. The presentation templates are also perfect for use in your next speaking engagement or as an interactive page on your website.
Hope this blog post has illustrated you don't need to be artistic or educated in graphic design to create eye-catching images for your business marketing.
